Meet The Team
Justine Soper
Sole Principal of JLS Solicitors
JLS Solicitors was founded by Justine Soper in 2008 and very much reflects Justine’s own philosophy and ethos.
Having left school at 16 to work in a legal practice, she studied for her legal qualifications part-time in the evenings; a long and arduous process. Initially qualifying as a Legal Executive, she continued her studies at the prestigious Guildford College of Law, graduating as a Solicitor in 1997, achieving the highest grades on her course that year.
Commitment
Justine’s commitment to helping clients reach agreement through dispute resolution is very much grounded in these early days of her career.
Having observed at first hand the detrimental effects of having to go to court for a judge to decide what was going to happen – as Court was a requirement for divorce then – Justine was an early adopter of mediation practices.
In Justine’s own words “Why would you want a stranger (the Judge) telling you how to live your life or what should happen to your children?”
Accreditations
Initially qualifying as a Family Mediator in 2003 Justine is now an Accredited Family Mediator. She subsequently also became a Collaborative Solicitor and Family Law Arbitrator (although she no longer works herself as an arbitrator).
Justine is a Member of the Law Society’s Advanced Family Law Panel.
She is also on Resolution’s Parenting after Parting committee whose aim is to inform family lawyers on best practice for child focused outcomes to financial and parenting disputes, and to provide resources and information to separating parents to help them help their children following relationship breakdown.
Approach
Justine’s knowledge of family law is extensive and she has a very calm and considered approach; always able to stand back and help a client think through the consequences of a decision, not just on them but on any other parties e.g. any children.
She is also extremely thorough, disciplined and has a great attention to detail and if, despite all best intentions, you do end up in court, you can be confident in her steely determination to do her best for you.
However, fundamentally Justine believes a client’s future happiness is best achieved by them being in control and making agreements that they are comfortable with, hence her focus on Dispute Resolution methods. She will use her extensive knowledge, well-practiced skills and expertise to guide you through this process.
Lauren Stewart-Browne
Paralegal
Having originally graduated from University of York with a Law degree, Lauren completed her LPC (Legal Practice Course) and her Masters from the University of Law in Guildford in 2020. She spent four years working as a paralegal in family law before joining JLS in 2024.
Lauren always knew she wanted to work in family law as she enjoys the more personal approach of helping clients as individuals. Indeed, she is very focused on the fact that for her clients, it is not just a “case” she is dealing with; it is, in fact, their whole life.
One of the reasons Lauren joined JLS was because the firm’s ethos of striving for resolution outside of court, aligned with her own beliefs. And of course, she has already observed positive change in this direction with the introduction of “no fault” divorce in 2022. Going forward she very much believes that open and honest communication is the most effective way for clients to achieve the best results for themselves and their family.
Lauren has an analytical approach to her work, with great attention to detail but above all she is very approachable and easy to talk to. She also, very memorably, has a dog called Tigger!
Emma Goode
Paralegal
Originally from the North West, Emma has worked in the Legal Sector for around 25 years in different roles initially; for some years now as a Paralegal. Before joining JLS Solicitors, Emma worked for two national law firms and has covered many areas of law. Having started working in Family Law exclusively since around 2019, Emma quickly discovered that she enjoyed the more personal approach of family law, and the engagement with clients and being able to assist them on a daily basis. Since joining JLS, Emma has taken a particular interest also in the focus on Dispute Resolution and the difference that can make to a client and their family.
Emma works closely with Justine and Lauren, is very hard working and conscientious. More particularly for our clients, Emma is dependable, trustworthy, and is able to put people quickly at ease with her kind and friendly personality.
In her spare time, Emma enjoys spending time with her family both in the sunny South and sometimes the more rainier North West.
